Porgera goes live on MINEMAN Managed Services
The Mineman / Porgera Managed Services project is live on MINEMAN as of 29th December 2015, with the first parcel shipped from Lae port on the 8th January 2016.
The Porgera Joint Venture is an open pit and underground gold mine located at an altitude of 2,200-2,700 meters above sea level in the Enga Province of Papua New Guinea.
The mine is roughly 130 kilometres west of Mount Hagen and 600 kilometres northwest of the capital Port Moresby.
Total Porgera gold production is forecast for 2016 at 436,000 ounces, of which 57,500 ounces are contained in gold concentrates.
Mineman has implemented a system to manage the gold concentrate production stream that commenced in December 2015.
The joint venture is 95% owned and managed by Barrick (Niugini) Ltd and 5% is owned by Mineral Resources Enga Limited.
Barrick (Niugini) Ltd is owned equally by Barrick, a global top tier producer based in Toronto, Canada, who own and manage many gold and copper operations around the world and the Zijin Mining Group, located in Longyan City, Fujian Province, China.
This project represents the second managed services implementation by Mineman. The Mineman managed services team updates the Porgera MINEMAN gold concentrate system with production and logistics data provided by the Porgera team. Invoicing and related shipping documentation is produced as parcels are readied for loading through to the final settlement.
In addition, the Mineman Managed Services team provides marketing and financial reports to Porgera at agreed intervals.
The following MINEMAN modules were installed: Marketing and Finance
The aim of the project has been to provide Porgera with a gold concentrate sales system to manage the weight and assay data associated with individual containers, allocating and tracking containers to sales parcels, producing sales and shipping documentation and producing month end reports, including journals, for uploading into the client’s Oracle financial system.
The project had been agreed to start earlier in 2015 however Porgera required the construction of a processing filter plant. These works were completed and commissioned late Q4 of 2015 and, having already prepared the system and staff, Mineman was ready to go live at the required time.
“We have been working with the Mineman team to conjointly manage our concentrate sales project since late 2015. We find the Mineman staff very professional and informative and, without their input to the process, our project would not have had such a smooth transition to live production.
They provide very timely data and are also flexible in their ability to change reports or functionality within the system to suit our needs. We recommend their service very highly.”
